Kate McKinnon has seemingly found the Howard Baskin to her Carole Baskin in the upcoming Joe Exotic series, with Kyle MacLachlan said to be taking on the role.

Following the release of Tiger King on Netflix last year, a true crime series following former zookeeper and big cat collector Joe Exotic, interest has continued to rise around the convicted felon and his nemesis Carole, a big cat conservationist.

There are several dramatisations of their feud in the works, including one starring Saturday Night Live star Kate as Carole.

The programme will be based on the Wondery Podcast of the same name, focusing on the highly-publicised clashes between Carole and Joe.

With John Cameron Mitchell on board to play Joe, it has now emerged that Desperate Housewives star Kyle may have been cast as Carole’s husband, Howard.

According to Variety, the actor will portray the big cat lover’s supportive spouse in the series.

Kyle is best-known for his role as Dale Cooper in Twin Peaks, a special agent in the FBI.

He’s also starred in TV shows including Desperate Housewives, Sex and the City and How I Met Your Mother, as well as films including Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, Dune and Black Velvet.

Other actors already confirmed to star in the Joe Exotic series include Brian Van Holt as John Reinke, Sam Keeley as John Finlay, William Fichtner as Rich Kirkham and Natt Wolff as Travis Maldonado.

When it was announced that John had been cast as Joe, the actor said that he was ‘thrilled to take on the role of this modern folk antihero’.

‘Joe and I are the same age and like him, I grew up queer in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas so I feel like I know a little bit about this guy and his desperate attempt to conquer an inhospitable world,’ he said.

More: Joe Exotic

As well as Peacock’s series, CBS is also producing a Joe Exotic-inspired TV series starring Nicolas Cage in the lead role.

Joe recently revealed that he wants to be in direct contact with both actors playing him in the two TV shows, tweeting that he wants Nicolas and Jon to ‘know the real me instead of made up bull***t’.

Metro.co.uk has contacted NBCUniversal for comment.

The Joe Exotic series will air on Peacock in the US.
