Richard Madely accidentally gave Sajid Javid a new job title on Good Morning Britain, announcing him as the ‘new Chancellor’.

Mr Javid has taken over the role of Health Secretary after Matt Hancock resigned following photos of him kissing his aide, Gina Coladangelo, emerged.

Teasing Mr Javid’s appearance on Good Morning Britain, Richard told viewers: ‘We’ll see what happens with the new Chancellor in half an hour. Here’s Laura [Tobin] with the weather.’

‘Health Secretary,’ his co-star Susanna Reid corrected, with Richard starting and apologising: ‘Oh sorry! Health Secretary. Sorry.’

Earlier in the show, Richard, who has been presenting with Susanna after Piers Morgan left the show earlier this year, also clashed with Dr Hilary Jones over ‘Freedom Day’ on July 19.

The Government is expected to lift all Covid-19 restrictions, including mandatory mask-wearing and social distancing, but the NHS worker admitted he’s wary about it, insisting we’re putting ‘too much faith’ in the vaccinations.

Richard went on to ask how long we have to ‘fear’ Covid, with Dr Hilary saying: ‘We don’t need to fear it, we need to be aware of it and we need to be careful.’

Mr Javid replaced Mr Hancock last week, as England prepares for major changes to the Covid-19 restrictions on July 19.

Boris Johnson promised to tear up England’s coronavirus regulations at the next stage of his road map out of lockdown.

The prime minister told a Downing Street press conference that there will no longer be any limits on social contact, meaning the end of the ‘rule of six’ and the ‘one metre plus’ rule except in specific circumstances, while the legal requirement to wear face coverings will also be lifted.

All remaining businesses will be allowed to reopen and the Government will no longer instruct people to work from home.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
