Things are starting to heap up for the Love Island contestants of 2021 as two new bombshells have entered the villa.

That’s not the only place where the competition is starting to get heated, as comments from Hugo Hammond has caused rows and tears in the far from peaceful villa.

Hugo Hammond has been in the villa from day one and is the shows first ever disabled contestant.

The cricket player – who admitted he’s been ‘single for a while now’ – says he’s excited to be on the show.

He has so far been coupled with Faye Winter, Sharon Gaffka and Chloe Burrows.

So, here’s everything you need to know about Hugo.

Who is Hugo Hammond?

Hugo Hammond is a PE teacher and cricketer from Hampshire, and he’s the ITV dating show’s first ever disabled contestant.

The 24-year-old – who you can find on Instagram with the username @hugo_hammond_ – admitted he’s struggled to ‘get back into dating’ during the pandemic.

‘I’ve been single for a while now. With the current climate, it’s been really hard to get back into dating,’ he said.

‘I saw it as an opportunity to have an amazing fun summer and put myself back out there.’

The Oxford Brookes graduate was in a in relationship in September of last year.

He shared snaps of himself with girlfriend Millie Simmons on Instagram, celebrating their two year anniversary a month later.

A source told Entertainment Daily that ‘Millie and Hugo decided to mutually split before the show started.’

Who does Hugo Hammond play cricket for?

Hugo has played for the England PD (Physical Disability) team, and he’s travelled all over the world for the sport.

‘I’ve been to Bangladesh, Dubai, I’ve been everywhere to play cricket,’ he said, while also noting how much he loves his job as a PE teacher.

‘I love all my sports. It’s great to be able to pass on that enthusiasm to be physically active to the younger generation and hopefully they feel the same about me teaching them.’

What is clubfoot?

Clubfoot is where a baby is born with a foot or feet that turn in and under.

Early treatment and physiotherapy can correct it, and it usually isn’t painful.

It occurs in around 1 in 1,000 children, and is more common in boys.

It’s usually diagnosed in the womb, and is thought by doctors to be genetic as it runs in families.

Hugo has been open about the condition, revealing he ‘had lots of operations’ when he was younger.

He says he sees it as ‘natural swagger’, and that his appearance on the show will demonstrate ‘what full lives, in every respect, that people clubfoot can lead.’

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub. Episodes are available the following morning on BritBox.
