Daniil Medvedev Pulls a Nikolay Davydenko Response After Wimbledon Championships 2021 Loss
The seven-match winning streak on grass came to a sudden end for Daniil Medvedev at Wimbledon Championships R4. After a 2 set to 1 lead, he blew his rhythm and saw an upset against Hubert Hurkacz, losing the match 6-2, 6-7(2), 6-3, 3-6, 3-6. With this, the dream of World No.1 Ranking for the Russian also got scraped.
Following the devastating loss, the second seed of the Championships rushed to give his post-match press conference. No doubt, Medvedev wanted to get over it as soon as possible.

The Russian World No.2 Daniil Medvedev had a fine start to his 2021 season, reaching the Australian Open finals. After that, he went into an on and off phase on the Tour. However, the 25-year-old got back up to his best as he began his grass season.
Before coming into this tournament, Medvedev won the Mallorca Championships grass event. Hence, many assumed him to do well in Wimbledon as well.

Unquestionably, the Russian produced some scintillating performances at the All England Club. Even in his clash against reigning Miami Open champion Hubert Hurkacz, he seemed to be a clear winner after the third set. But unfortunately, rains suspended their match to the next day, and it was simply not the day for Medvedev.
“Played really bad today. Not much more to say,” Medvedev said in the presser. On this, tennis experts drew a parallel between him and retired Russian Nikolay Davydenko. He used to famously accept defeat with the “He played good, but I played very very bad,” statement.

With Medvedev’s exit, Hurkacz made it into his maiden Grand Slam quarterfinals at Wimbledon Championships 2021. He will next face record eight-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer for a place in the semifinal.

Roger Federer on meeting Medvedev or Hurkacz in the QFs
Since Federer finished his quarterfinal match yesterday, he did not know who his next opponent would be. Yet, he knew that either Medvedev or Hurkacz would need to play back-to-back, which he said was “unfair.”

The challenge now is upon the Pole professional to recover quickly and get ready for the ultimate challenge in Wimbledon. It would be interesting to see if he can take out the 21st Grand Slam dream of Roger Federer.
