Friends and family of TikTok star Matima Miller have set up a GoFundMe page to help cover his funeral costs, after he died aged 19.

The star, known as Swavy or Babyface.s online, was fatally shot on Monday and later died in hospital, with police officers appealing for information.

His family confirmed his death in a heartfelt statement on his Instagram page, as tributes poured in.

Following the news, they have now thanked fans for continued support, and asked for donations towards his ceremony – with more than $13,000 (£9k) raised at the time of writing.

The message on the official GoFundMe page reads: ‘On the behalf of our family, we would like to say thank you for the continued support and love for Matima Miller also known as Swavy or Babyface.

‘It is with great sadness that we announce Swavy’s passing on 07/05/2021. He was taken away from us due to a senseless act of gun violence. Unfortunately, due to legality we are not able to provide much information on the events surrounding his passing.

‘As we deal with this heartbreak, we ask for your support in ensuring our son, brother, nephew, cousin and friend has a legendary home going ceremony.

’You can support us by contributing to Matima Miller’s Official GofundMe account. Whether you can donate $1 or $100, it will be greatly appreciated and put to good use.’

The post concluded: ‘We pray that you will continue to support our family through this difficult time.’

Miller died on Monday, after being rushed to hospital after a shooting incident.

Wilmington Police Department shared news of his death on Tuesday, with a spokesperson previously explaining that a ‘male gunshot victim’ was ‘transported to hospital’ where he ‘succumbed to his injuries’.

Following an earlier message from officials, a statement read: ‘The victim in this incident has been identified as Matima Miller.

‘This incident remains under investigation and further details will be released when possible.’
