2021 Ryder Cup skipper Steve Stricker made a statement recently. “It’s big for us and the U.S. Team, and we need to win this one, and I think we will win this one I know we’re going to win this one and get that cup back here in the states,” he said.

Steve Stricker is a three-time U.S. Ryder Cup team member. He became the captain of the side in 2019 but unfortunately lost the cup as Europe regained it on a thrilling final day finish.

But Jack Nicklaus does not seem to be impressed by this statement. He gave a message to all the fans and players. “The Ryder Cup is a goodwill match between golfing nations. I don’t think who wins is all that important. What’s most important is the spirit in which the matches are played”.

When I gave Tony that putt in 1969, I thought that was what the right spirit and thus the right decision. I’m honored and humbled the @PGA of America chose that moment as a source of inspiration for this award. pic.twitter.com/0toBwqWN4p

And additionally, he also thanked the PGA of America for keeping an award named Nicklaus-Jacklin award in this year’s Ryder Cup. The award is for the players who play the Ryder Cup in the right spirit of the game. The 1969 Ryder Cup incident between Jack Nicklaus and Tony Jacklin serves as inspiration behind the award.
