Oscar De La Hoya Targeting a ‘Real Fight’ With Canelo Alvarez or Floyd Mayweather

Exhibition fights have turned into a new trend in boxing that has shaken the sport to the core. Many boxing legends and celebrities across many verticals are lacing up the boxing gloves to fulfill their wish of competing in a boxing match. That said, the former boxing kingpin, Oscar De La Hoya, too, will take up the ring space in a few months from now. He will face the UFC legend, Vitor Belfort.

De La Hoya, on a number of occasions, expressed his interest in coming back to the sport. However, he was looking for a stern opponent for an exhibition. Subsequently, he got aligned to confront Belfort in a proficient exhibition bout.

But ‘Golden Boy’ just doesn’t wish to limit himself to exhibition bouts. In fact, he’s looking at a wider picture and is eyeing a 12-round fight with either Canelo Alvarez or Floyd Mayweather.

In Mike Tyson’s Hotboxin’ podcast, he said, “This is what’s happening. Okay, this might be my fighter juices flowing again, you know. And first of all, you inspired me, Mike.”

“I wanna do two of these fights, you know. I wanna do two of these fights and then guess what, I wanna do a real fight, 12 round fight with either Floyd Mayweather or Canelo.”

De La Hoya is extremely pumped for his boxing return. This is principally why he wants to elevate his stint by fighting professionally again. That said, he even has two opponents in mind.

Will Oscar De La Hoya truly get to fight Floyd Mayweather or Canelo Alvarez?

Floyd Mayweather, who hung up his gloves from the game a while back, has no interest left in coming to the professional mix. On the other hand, Canelo is on his pursuit to claim all the 168-pound titles on the line.

Looking at both the fighters’ current runs, it seems that ‘Golden Boy’ won’t be able to get his hands on either of the two by any means. However, if De La Hoya keeps his focus only on exhibition bouts, he’ll open himself to facing many fighters from boxing and MMA.
