UFC Debutant Kris Moutinho Says He Quit His Job in Paint Factory Before Getting The Fight Against Sean O’Malley

Prior to his scheduled clash with Louis Smolka, ‘Sugar’ Sean O’Malley got the news that his opponent won’t make it to UFC 264. ‘Da Last Samurai’ complained of staph infection being the reason behind his withdrawal. Hence, the UFC retained O’Malley for the main card and presented him with a promotional newcomer in Kris Moutinho.

Making a debut in the main card featuring a headlining clash between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier is the best possible thing a fighter could ask for. And more so a fighter, who was working in a different profession altogether, not so long ago.

Moutinho, a Massachusetts native, appeared for his first UFC pre-fight press event. The former CES MMA fighter talked about how he got his matchup with ‘Sugar’ and other details about his time before the UFC. One reporter asked him if he plans to end up like Conor McGregor, who started out broke and reached the pinnacle of MMA.

“I wasn’t broke,” Moutinho said. “I had a job where I was working 80 hours a week and literally this beginning of June, I decided I’m done with this.”

When another reporter asked what job he was doing, Moutinho replied, “I was working in a paint factory. I just ran a line, filled paint cans. Made okay money. But it’s not what I love. My goal in life is whether I make less money or make more money, my goal is to do something I love for the rest of life.”

He added, “The only thing I have ever been happy with is fighting and training.”

Moutinho is a 28-year-old from Milford, Massachusetts. He currently represents the Top Game Management and Regiment Training Center. The to be UFC debutant started his amateur career for promotions like AFO and Cage Titans FC, amassing an impressive amateur record.

He made his professional debut with CES MMA against Matthew Maldonado in September 2016 at CES MMA 38. The match went the distance and Moutinho picked up a unanimous decision win.

Moutinho represented CES MMA for 12 matches and registered an 8-4 record. In his 9 career wins, he has claimed just one via submission. That came in his last bout at CFFC 96.

He will be eager to make an impressive debut for the biggest MMA promotion at UFC 264. His opponent, O’Malley, is one of the best names for him to get a rub off on July 10.
