WHAT A WIN! Hseih Su-wei Successfully Defends Her Wimbledon Title With Elise Mertens By Outplaying Vesnina and Kudermetova

While World No.1 Ashleigh Barty won the women’s singles title at the Wimbledon Championships 2021, another interesting match took place on the Centre Court after that. It was the finals of the women’s doubles category in which the pair of Hsieh Su-wei and Elise Mertens made an incredible comeback and defeated the Russian pair of Elena Vesnina and Veronika Kudermetova to clinch the title. The final scoreline of the match was 3-6, 7-5, 9-7.

Set-1: Elena Vesnina and Veronika Kudermetova enjoyed an easy win

Vesnina and Kudermetova established an early lead and dropped it at any point of time. Even though Hsieh Su-wei tried her level best and played some really amazing forehands, she couldn’t cover up the margin.

Elise Mertens too tried hard to play some cheeky shots but they were ineffective as Vesnina and Kudermetova were targetting the baseline of their opponents consistently. As a result, they won the set 6-3.

Set-2 and Set-3: The sets where Hsieh Su-wei and Elise Mertens changed the dynamics of the match

Even though the momentum was not on their side, Su-wei and Mertens never gave up. They fought back, broke twice in the second set, and therefore, managed to win the crucial second set 7-5.

Quite incredible viewing on Centre Court

The victory was looking almost impossible at one stage for Su-wei and Mertens when they were trailing two games behind their opponents. However, they struck back, saved a couple of break-points, and managed to take the set to 7-7. After that, they finally broke before their opponents, won the subsequent game, and thus won the set 9-7.

What. A. Match.
