“Would Mean Everything”: Novak Djokovic Sums up His Quest to Equal Federer and Nadal at Wimbledon

Novak Djokovic is on the cusp of history at the ongoing Wimbledon Championships. While the Serbian reached his seventh final in the grass court Grand Slam, he could tie Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal for the most career Grand Slam victories this Sunday.

After his semifinal victory over Denis Shapovalov, the World No. 1 summed up what a win would mean to him.

Novak Djokovic admits winning his 20th Grand Slam would “mean everything”

After successfully clinching the Australian Open and French Open earlier this year, Djokovic arrived at Wimbledon in top form. Since Jack Draper took him to four sets in the first round, the Serb never looked back. In fact, the World No. 1 is yet to drop another set since losing the first set in his match with Draper.

With Nadal not participating and Federer crashing out in the quarterfinals, Djokovic remains the lone member of the ‘Big 3’ still playing at Wimbledon. Should the Serbian defeat Matteo Berrettini in tomorrow’s final, he will tie Federer and Nadal with his 20th career Grand Slam.

Ahead of Sunday’s showdown, Djokovic admitted matching those two players means everything to him. He said, “Well, it would mean everything and that’s why I’m here. It’s why I’m playing, and I imagine myself being in a position to fight for another Grand Slam trophy prior to coming to London. And I put myself in a very good position.”

Djokovic: Looking forward to a great battle with Berrettini

Although the Serbian believes experience gives him an advantage on Sunday, he acknowledged Berrettini’s form in the grass court season. Hence, the Serbian believes the final could be a challenging task for both players.

He said, “Anything is possible in the finals. Obviously experience is on my side, but Berrettini has been winning a lot of matches on grass courts this year. He’s in great form. He’s serving big, playing big. So, it’s going to be a very tough match I think for both of us. But, I’m looking forward to a great battle.”

Although the World No. 1 is the overwhelming favorite for tomorrow’s final, Berrettini playing style could be a threat to the Serb’s chances. Can Djokovic clinch his sixth title in his seventh final at Wimbledon on July 11? Only time will tell.
