Lionel Messi Dedicates Copa America 2021 Triumph Over Brazil To Late Argentine Legend Diego Maradona

Lionel Messi finally won his very first international trophy as Argentina defeated Brazil in Copa America 2021 Finals. Given the star power at display of Messi and Neymar Jr. the game was a must-watch.

The finals between the two South American giants got off to an incredible start as the Brazil took control of the game. With possession in their side, Neymar and Co. had multiple attacks but failed to capitalize.

But the Argentine squad needed one good chance to take the lead. With PSG teammate Angel di Maria scoring, Neymar and the Selecao fell to a 1-0 lead. The Brazilian squad failed to make a comeback and eventually succumbed to a 1-0 defeat.

Lionel Messi dedicates Copa America 2021 win to Diego Maradona

The Argentine team have been one of the best teams in South America for a while but they have had a trouble winning a title. Failing to win a title in the last 28 years, Messi and Co. had the perfect chance to win a silverware for their country.

The 33-year-old also had failed to win an international tournament in his whole career despite reaching four Finals. But this Finals victory certainly was a much awaited accomplishment for the nation and Messi.

In an emotional Instagram post, the 6-time Ballon D’or winner dedicated his win to his childhood hero Diego Maradona. “I want to dedicate this success to my family, who always gave me the strength to keep going, to my friends that I love so much.

“To all the people who backed us and especially the 45 million Argentines who’ve had such a bad time with this s*** of a virus, especially those that were touched by it more closely. It’s for all of you. And, of course, thanks to Diego, who backed us from wherever he is.”

This win certainly was a much-needed trophy for Messi and Argentina. A nation who not only suffered dearly through the pandemic, they also lost a legendary figure in Maradona who was only 60 years old.

Argentina are showing that they have what it takes to be a powerhouse yet again. With a group of young players like Lautaro Martinez and a revamped mid-field, Messi and Co. can be a top team soon. Can Argentina help their talisman to win the FIFA World Cup next year?
