REVEALED: ‘Original’ Plan for Mercedes Relating to Bottas-Russell F1 Announcement

It’s another day in the George Russell- Mercedes saga, and it seems to be delayed beyond the British Grand Prix, where numerous reports stated that the team will make an announcement for next year’s lineup.

A new report stated that the Silver Arrows will wait a bit longer to announce who will drive with Lewis Hamilton in 2022. It was rumored to be announced at the upcoming British Grand Prix, but they might decide over the summer break about their future.

Mercedes might reconsider announcing the Russell-Hamilton lineup at Silverstone

The latest reports from a credible F1 reporter, Tobi Gruner who has stated that the Brackley-based outfit will give the seat to Russell, but might not announce it at the British GP; rather wait for the summer break.

I expect George to get the 2nd Mercedes cockpit for next year. But I’m not sure Mercedes will make an announcement already this weekend. The original plan was to wait till the summer break, according to my info. But plans can change of course.

The Brit wants to clear the air about his future

The 23-year-old is part of the Mercedes junior driver program and has his contract expiring at Williams at the end of the season. Coincidentally, Valtteri Bottas’s contract is also running out at the end of the year. Hence, the Brit wants to sort out which team he will be representing on the grid next year.

He said, “I haven’t really spoken about it [with Toto], that’s always just been my mindset [to conclude the talks quickly],” said Russell. “It’s in everyone’s best interest. I’m just focused on the here and now really”

‘But I’m sure everything will be sorted no later than the end of the summer break really. I think we’d all want a nice summer break off when the season’s this intense, not messing around with contracts!,” Russell concluded.

Do you see Russell dominate the track alongside Hamilton? Or will the Silver Arrows stick to their current lineup and offer Bottas a new contract to stay with the team next season? Who do you think will get the seat? Let us know your predictions down below.
