WATCH: Matteo Berrettini and Girlfriend Ajla Tomljanovic Celebrate Italy’s Win Over England in Euro 2020 Finals

Matteo Berrettini lost the biggest match of his career so far to Novak Djokovic at the Wimbledon Championships 2021 final. Fortunately, he got enough to compensate for his loss the same night. Notably, he and his girlfriend Ajla Tomljanovic cheered on from the Wembley Stadium as Italy defeated England in the Euro 2020 Finals.

A few hours ago, Berrettini took the opening set off Djokovic and found himself so close to the dream. However, once the Serbian World No.1 got in, the Rome native never had a chance. Conversely, Italy came back after England hit a goal in the second minute of the match.

While on one hand, the first Italian to reach the final at Wimbledon lost 7-6(4), 6-4, 6-4, 6-3, elsewhere, the Italians became two-time Euro champions, winning on 3-2 penalities after 1-1 in regulation time.

Unquestionably, Berrettini would have been upset to miss out on the Italian double on Sunday afternoon. Yet, watching Team Italy dribble past Team England seemed to lighten him up. Additionally, the company of Croatian-Australian professional Tomljanovic in Wembley Stadium added to the happiness.

Seemingly, the 25-year-old added his part of the celebration to his Instagram story. Nobody could probably guess that he lost a Wimbledon final only hours earlier.

So, in the end, it turned out well for the fans of sports in Italy. But, for Berrettini, the comeback from a heavy loss would only begin now. Still, he can be proud of having the best grass-court season of his career until now, ending it with an 11-1 record.

On the other side, Djokovic equaled Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal‘s 20 Grand Slams record. He now only has US Open left to complete his Calendar Slam of 2021.

Along with a maiden Grand Slam title, Berrettini had a chance to reach a career-high ranking of No.7. However, he is now back at No.8 and also third in the ATP Race to Turin.

From here on, tennis transitions once again to the hard courts. Also, players will begin their preparations for the last Grand Slam of the year, the US Open.
