Andy Ruiz Jr. Will Be “Flat on His Back and Be Hurt” Against Deontay Wilder, Says Ex-Coach

Former heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr. has returned to the win column by vanquishing Chris Arreola in May. In his current position, he can either demand a world title shot or go for even bigger names ahead. That includes a fantasy fight between him and ex-WBC world champion Deontay Wilder somewhere down the line.

However, ex-coach Abel Sanchez doesn’t see Ruiz Jr. ready for Deontay Wilder yet. Although joining hands with Team Canelo could have been beneficial for the Mexican heavyweight boxer, Sanchez has envisioned a brutal knockout win for Wilder if he faces ‘The Destroyer’.

Talking about Andy Ruiz Jr’s next possible opponents, Sanchez connected with the Fight Hub TV and said, “Ortiz is a better fight for him. He [Andy Ruiz Jr.] doesn’t want to face Wilder. He will be flat on his back and be hurt.”

While the current heavyweight division is in a complete mess, Ruiz Jr. can opt to battle Luis Ortiz amongst all. Both Ortiz and Ruiz Jr. have won their last fights and are looking for a way to grab title shots. Hence they can collide opposite each other and determine the right man to leap forward. However, Andy Ruiz Jr’s team has confirmed nothing from their side.

So, the Mexican is still out of a viable opponent. He has reportedly hit the gym again and is eyeing another appearance this year. But the ongoing situation puts some serious doubt regarding its fruition.

What’s next for Andy Ruiz Jr.?

As of now, it would be bizarre to expect ‘The Destroyer’ competing for a world title anytime soon. Unified champion Anthony Joshua will defend his WBA, WBO, and IBF straps against Oleksandr Usyk on September 9. Meanwhile, WBC titlist Tyson Fury will primarily beat Coronavirus and then defend his belt against Deontay Wilder in an epic trilogy.

Even after that, several mandatory contenders like WBC Interim champion Dillian Whyte and top-rated WBO rank-holder Joe Joyce will come for their shots at the gold. So, Andy Ruiz Jr. may have to compete in another non-title fight and then stage his road to the world championship. It leaves a few big names on the radar and Luis Ortiz might make most sense amid all.
