Cornwall holiday park asks guests to clean the toilet blocks due to staff isolation

A HOLIDAY park in Cornwall has resorted to asking guests to clean the toilet blocks – due to staff shortages.

Mother Ivey’s Bay Holiday Park, located near Padstow made the request to guests as a number of staff at the site have to self-isolate due to the Track & trace app, despite having negative Covid tests.

In a letter sent to the 1,000 guests, Director Patrick Langmaid said it was to “avoid canceling holidays” until the end of August.

The letter, revealed by Cornwall Live, he wrote: “With your help, toilet blocks could be kept open, and touring holidays saved.”

“I appreciate this is a very big ask, and many of you will either not be able to help, or will not wish to help, and that is of course fine.

“These are, however, desperate times and we are exploring all our options, so we know which way we have to jump if too many of our team is ‘pinged’, leaving us unable to keep toilet blocks cleaned and guests safe.

“We are sending this email to test the water, and we look forward to hearing from any touring guest who is able to offer help cleaning toilet blocks during July and August.”

He added that if the park is forced to cancel holidays then guests will get a full refund – having already given £820,000 out in refunds during the pandemic.

However, one guest called the request “outrageous” with Mr Langmaid saying some people weren’t happy with the request, although was appreciated by most guests.

He told local media that he was “desperate, fearful and anxious” at the risk of having to cancel peoples holidays.

He added: “My primary concern is for the safety of my guests and my staff – so if we cannot keep the toilet blocks clean then we will be cancelling people’s holidays, which is the last thing I want to do.”
