Filming on Death in Paradise series 11 is well underway, and now the first picture of new cast member Shantol Jackson in character has been released.

The actress is set to star as ambitious young sergeant Naomi Thomas, who will play a vital role in the local police in upcoming episodes.

She’s pictured as production steps on the French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe, posing next to Tahj Miles in character as Marlon Pryce.

The character is described as a gifted officer who has arrived from a neighbouring island to join the Saint Marie Police.

The 28-year-old said: ‘I’m so grateful for this amazing opportunity to join the cast of this fun-filled, entertaining series.

‘I used to watch Death In Paradise with my dad in Jamaica years ago when it just started and to now be in the show, knowing that he’ll be watching me, it’s truly a surreal moment. Looking forward to adding to the magic.’

Shantol previously starred as Yvonne in the Idris Elba-directed 2018 crime drama Yardie.

It comes after new pictures were released to confirm the show had begun filming, with Ralph Little relaxing in a hammock as he prepared to return in the role of detective Neville Parker.

They’ll be joined by returning stars Josephine Jobert, Don Warrington, Tahj Miles and Elizabeth Bourgine.

The BBC said series 11 will see ‘even more mysterious murders, guest stars galore, huge surprises and plenty of twists’.

Viewers were left on a cliffhanger at the end of series 10, with the final episode ending on a cliffhanger as Neville decided to tell Florence he likes her.
