Euro 2020 is over: From Love Island to Clarkson’s Farm – all the TV you’ve been missing

No more football? There’s plenty to catch up on (Picture: Amazon/Netflix/REX/ITV)

There’s more to life than football, even if sometimes it doesn’t feel that way.

England fans had their hearts broken after Italy beat them on penalties on Sunday night, bringing to a close one of the most entertaining tournaments in living memory.

It had us hooked for the past five weeks, dominating the ratings and bringing us more drama than we could handle at times.

Now, though, it’s over and millions of fans are looking for something to fill the void.

Thankfully, there’s an awful lot of good telly for people to catch up on.

From unmissable dating shows to intriguing reality series, these are the best shows to watch now the Euros are over.

Love Island

Things are hotting up in the Love Island villa (Picture: ITV)

Sure, it got off to a bit of a slow start, but the returning Love Island is slowly cranking up and has the makings of a classic series.

We’ve had shocking early exits, controversy and romance in the first few weeks, and now the football is done for the time being, fans can put all their eggs in one basket and completely give themselves over to Love Island this summer.

Love Island continues daily on ITV2 at 9pm. Episodes can be streamed on the ITV Hub.

Crime dramas don’t come much suaver than Lupin, which returned last month after an agonising wait. The second collection of episodes focus less on the world of heists and more on the father son relationship at the heart of the drama. Paris, as ever, looks stunning on screen, and Omar Sy is a captivating screen presence throughout. Safe to say we’re excited for season three.

Lupin is available to stream on Netflix

Clarkson’s Farm

Who knew watching Jeremy Clarkson herd sheep around a field could be so damn entertaining?

The Grand Tour star goes rural in his latest series, taking to farming in his own inimitable way. There’s an oddball bromance with local farmer Kaleb Cooper to look out for, as well as some of the most unusual takes on the ancient art of farming ever seen. It’s also oddly emotional too, as the presenter forms emotional bonds with the animals he rears – before he eats them for his Sunday dinner, of course.

Clarkson’s Farm is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video

Too Hot to Handle

If Love Island doesn’t satisfy your craving for watching beautiful people frolic in the sun, then Too Hot To Handle is essential viewing. It follows a group of attractive singletons who cannot have any sexual contact with each other, or face losing money from the prize fund.

It’s a crazier, hornier version of the format, Too Hot To Handle has provided us with some of the wildest viewing of 2021 and it’s been bringing a bit of sun and a splash of scandal into our lives when we needed it most. All of season two is ready to be binged on Netflix right now.

If you thought watching England lose on penalties was gruelling, it’s nothing on season four of The Handmaid’s Tale. The dystopian drama based on the novel written by Margaret Atwood continues to be as darkly compelling as ever, and for our money it’s pretty much the best ensemble cast anywhere on TV, with the excellent Elisabeth Moss and Joseph Fiennes leading the way.

Sweet Tooth

An unusual blend of part comedy and part dystopian thriller about a viral apocalypse might sound a bit close to the bone in 2021, but Netflix’s Sweet Tooth has won over millions since it arrived last month.

It’s got a lot going for it – it’s funny, for one, features the underrated Will Forte and also includes some pretty adorable human-animal hybrids. Count us in.

Disney continues to broaden the Marvel universe in some style. After the whipsmart WandaVision, and the (admittedly not so great) Falcon and the Winter Soldier, they’ve excelled themselves with Loki.

The series focuses on Tom Hiddleston’s mischievous god, helping to flesh out one of the most idiosyncratic Marvel characters. Tom is great as ever, but it’s Owen Willson who steals the show here as Mobius, who might just be one of our favourite characters in the MCU.

Loki is available to stream on Disney+

Rick and Morty

One of the most popular animated comedies came back to our screens in June, ending Rick and Morty fans’ wait for the cult animation. You can see why they missed it so much. The show has become one of the most beloved comedies out there – and if you get it, you really, really get it.

The best part of it all? There’s a whole lot more to come. The show’s writer Alex Rubens recently revealed that they’re so far ahead they’ve already got season six mapped out behind the scenes.

Ted Lasso

When a show’s concept is as inspired as Ted Lasso’s, it makes you wonder why no-one did it before? The inspired fish-out-of-water comedy focuses on Ted, an American way out of his depth coaching a British Premier League football team. Jason Sudeikis is perfect in the role, which has helped the show become a real, old-school word of mouth hit. It’s back later this month.

Ted Lasso season 2 is available to watch on Apple TV+ from July 23

Naomi Osaka

Piers Morgan might not be a fan, but don’t let that put you off for a second. This new self-titled documentary about tennis player Osaka’s life and career so far focuses on the two years after she beat Serena Williams at the US Open in 2018.

More: Love Island

It all comes after the world No. 2 from Japan faced a backlash for her decision to withdraw from the French Open after struggling with depression. More than just a sports documentary, this looks like a must-watch.

The Noami Osaka documentary series will be available to watch on Netflix on July 16
