“Not More He Can Create”: Former British No.1 on Roger Federer and His Grand Slam Ambitions

Roger Federer has been in the news recently, regarding his form and performance over the years. The Swiss legend crashed out of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships after losing out to Hubert Hurkacz. However, the player does not seem to have any plans of retiring from the sport anytime soon.

British tennis legend and former US Open finalist, Greg Rusedski has expressed his opinion on the whole Federer topic. He believes that Federer will remain “unsatisfied” if he retires without a Major title at the end of his career.

What does Greg have to say about Roger Federer?

Roger Federer has been struggling to find his rhythm and form on the court for the past couple of years. The knee injuries and surgeries have slowed him down on the court, consequently affecting his game. However, he is focused and determined enough to get back to his winning ways and perhaps win a Grand Slam title before retiring.

Federer has defied logic, he has defied time, he created a new game in 2017. There is not more he can create anymore because it was all based on movement, taking the ball early coming forward. So the question mark, will he be happy not being able to win majors again? And that is the big question mark only Roger can answer. Knowing Roger from quite a young age, around 16-17 years of age, I don’t think he will be satisfied just showing up without really believing he can win,” said Greg on a show with the TENNIS channel.

Federer’s sad end to Wimbledon Championships 2021

Roger Federer bowed out of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, as he lost to Hubert Hubert Hurkacz in the quarterfinal round. Federer did not have a good pre-season before entering the main draw at Wimbledon. He lost to Canadian youngster, Felix Auger Aliassime at the Halle Open, a few days before the Wimbledon Championships.

Federer lost to Hubert Hurkacz 3-6, 6-7, 0-6 at Wimbledon. He got bageled in the third set as he made poor errors leading to his elimination.

The discussion regarding Federer’s future has been on everyone’s lips, since the beginning of the year. However, the former World No. 1 has no intentions of throwing in the towel. He will be playing at the Tokyo Olympic Games after getting selected in the Swiss contingent.
