Persona 25th Anniversary website teases seven new projects and Persona 6

What better anniversary gift than a new game? (pic: Atlus)

Atlus has promised a full year of Persona anniversary celebrations, with fans already convinced the finale will be a Persona 6 reveal.

There have been so many franchises with major anniversaries in the last year or so that it’s easy to lose track, but the very first Persona game was released on PlayStation 1 on September 20, 1996.

Thanks to the pandemic a lot of celebration plans have had to be curtailed but apparently not Persona, as publisher Atlus has put up a special website that promises seven new projects will be unveiled over the course of the next year.

That doesn’t mean seven games, with some of them implied to be physical events and collaborations with other publishers, but fans are already anticipating that the final announcement in autumn 2022 will be for Persona 6.

Persona 5 will be over six years old by the end of next year, so an announcement for its successor does make sense in terms of time scales – especially as it probably wouldn’t be released until at least a couple of years after.

Given existing titles like Persona 4 Arena and Persona 5 Strikers, more spin-offs also wouldn’t be a surprise, although there’s been nothing specific hinted at so far.

In terms of collaborations, fansite Persona Central suggests mobile title Code Name: X, by Chinese publisher Perfect World, was accidentally announced before it was supposed to be, and is likely one of the seven.

The only thing that’s known for certain is that Atlus will be releasing a ton of new merchandise, including acrylic stands, key rings, pin badges, and towels.

Some of these are sets with images currently blanked out, but whether that means the final product will include references to new characters or games is unclear.

What is certain though is that Persona fans should have plenty to get excited about this year and next, even if the best stuff is left for last.
