Emily In Paris has been slammed after it was announced it has been nominated for best comedy at this year’s Emmys.
The Netflix show, which is fronted by Lily Collins, is competing against Blackish, Cobra Kai, Hacks, The Flight Attendant, The Kominsky Method, Pen15 and Ted Lasso for the gong, with the ceremony due to take place in September.
Many have questioned how the series landed its nomination considering the barrage of backlash sent its way following its release in October, including reproach from French critics.
The programme was also caught up in a controversy earlier this year when it was nominated for a Golden Globe.
Firing up a storm on Twitter, one fumed: ‘EMILY IN PARIS GOT NOMINATED FOR AN EMMY? WHAT KIND OF DYSTOPIAN WORLD DO WE EVEN LIVE IN??’
Echoing a similar sentiment, another penned: ”Im sorry but seeing Emily In Paris be nominated for an Emmy alongside actually amazing TV shows is like going to dinner at a restaurant with three Michelin stars and seeing that skittles are also on the menu.’
Despite the backlash over the show being recognised, Lily was delighted by the nod.
‘We can’t even deal right now,’ she enthused. ‘Thank you for all the love and support – #EmilyinParis is officially nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series! Sending a big hug to the entire Emily team today!’
The Mandalorian has tied with The Crown for most nominations at this year’s Emmys, with both receiving a commendable 24 nods.
Sir Steve McQueen’s critically acclaimed anthology series Small Axe was snubbed in the limited or anthology series categories, with its actors, including John Boyega and Letitia Wright, also shut out.
