Warning: spoilers ahead for Loki episode 6.

Episode 6 of Marvel series Loki was full of surprises, with the finale of the Disney Plus show revealing who the big bad behind the TVA truly is.

However, aside from Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) meeting the TVA mastermind Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors), one of the earliest twists of the instalment was a surprise cameo made by environmental activist Greta Thunberg.

Yes, you read that right. Greta Thunberg is now canon in the MCU – and fans are elated.

At the beginning of the episode, the familiar Marvel opening credits were tweaked to feature voiceovers from characters from the MCU.

Memorable quotes included Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) saying ‘I can do this all day’, and the heart-wrenching line from Vision (Paul Bettany) in WandaVision, where he says: ‘What is grief, if not love persevering?

As the Marvel credits transitioned to an intergalactic scene, the voiceovers continued, including quotes from real-life figures.

Among them were Neil Armstrong, Malala Yousafzai, Maya Angelou and Nelson Mandela, with the late anti-apartheid leader heard stating: ‘We have fought for the right to experience peace.’

A snippet from Greta’s ‘how dare you’ speech could also be heard, when the Swedish teenager made her unforgettable address to world leaders at the United Nations in 2019.

At the sound of Greta’s voice, several Marvel fans expressed their astonishment, with some speculating how Greta could be weaved into the MCU.

‘I can’t believe Greta Thunberg is canon in the MCU,’ one person tweeted.

‘Welcome to the Marvel Cinematic Universe @GretaThunberg,’ another wrote.

There is a timeline where Greta Thunberg canonically fights Thanos #Loki pic.twitter.com/GjhWQ4Gv01

Someone else visualised Greta going up against one of the Avengers’ greatest foes, writing: ‘There is a timeline where Greta Thunberg canonically fights Thanos.’

To be honest, we reckon Thanos would tremble at the sight of Greta coming his way.

One person remarked that ‘#Loki intro equating heros in our reality like Greta and Malala with heros in the MCU’ is ‘poetic cinema’. We couldn’t agree more.

Greta and Malala are yet to comment on their surprise cameos at the start of the Loki season finale.

If we were them, we definitely wouldn’t know how to react!
