Bernard Hopkins Feels Canelo Alvarez ‘Sweeps’ the Light Heavyweight Division

The pound-for-pound king, Canelo Alvarez, is going super strong with his pursuit to become the undisputed king of the super-middleweights. Until now, he has vanquished every opponent in this weight category. That said, he just has one more test left against Caleb Plant. And if he claims a win against the American boxer, it’s unquestionable that Alvarez will be awarded a string of accolades.

Also, once he claims all the belts at super-middleweight, the Mexican boxer might move up to the light-heavyweight division too.

Recently, Bernard Hopkins commented on Canelo’s chances at the 175-pound division. Speaking to FightHype, he said, “Canelo can already compete up to cruiserweight. But the light heavyweight division, I think he sweeps that.”

“He’s willing to put the work in. He’s willing to go through anything that has to go through to be great. And I think that he’s in a position of the mentality of a fighter and just want to do great things from here on out.”

Over the past few years, Saul Alvarez has improved significantly as a boxer. He has remained highly relevant to the fight universe by staying active and testing himself against the best boxing talents.

In his last fight too, Alvarez piped down the aggressive Billy Joe Saunders with his thunderous power. With that win, the Guadalajara boxer added the WBO belt to his collection. Now, he is just one step away from creating history, and a fight against ‘Sweethands’ Plant looks imminent. However, given the stature of Saul Alvarez, fans will always wonder about what’s next for him.

Will Canelo Alvarez really find some success at the light-heavyweight division?

Canelo has moved to various weight classes in his vast boxing run and has claimed gold in each and every single division. This includes his 175 lbs title win over Sergey Kovalev in 2019.

That said, there’s no doubt about him finding success at the 175-frame. However, before visualizing a reign at light-heavyweight, he has to get past Caleb ‘Sweethands’.
