Kerry Washington ‘accidentally’ mixes up Scandal co-stars in birthday post: ‘Wrong TV bae’

It may have only been three years since the final episode of Scandal aired, but it appears that’s long enough to leave Kerry Washington mixing up her co-stars Scott Foley and Tony Goldwyn.

On July 15, Scott, who played Jake Ballard on Scandal, a love interest to Kerry’s Olivia Pope, celebrated his 49th birthday.

Kerry marked the occasion by sharing a message for him on social media, writing in the caption: ‘Happy birthday @scottkfoley!!!! Miss seeing this gorg face every day. Hope you have an amazing birthday.’

Only… the picture she shared to accompany her message was of the wrong co-star. Awkward!

Rather than share a picture of Scott, Kerry posted a selfie with fellow Scandal actor Tony, who played President Fitz Grant, Olivia’s other predominant love interest in the series.

While it was most likely a planned joke, Scott sounded less than enthused in his response on Instagram, commenting underneath the post: ‘This is not me.’

Kerry quickly followed up with a second birthday post for Scott, this time sharing a light-hearted throwback picture of her pretending to punch him.

‘WHOOPS wrong TV bae,’ she wrote in reference to her amusing error.

‘HAPPY BIRTHDAY @scottkfoley!!!!!!! I really do miss seeing your face (even when I’m fake punching it) every day. GLADIATORS! Help me send this guy some birthday love.’

Whether or not Kerry pretended to mix up her co-stars or made a genuine slip-up, several Scandal fans found the whole turn of events hilarious.

‘I can’t tell if you’re playing or not,’ one person tweeted in response to the first post alongside some cry-laughing emojis.

‘This has no reason being this funny,’ another said, while someone else remarked: ‘No bc you’re wild for this one.’

When Kerry rectified her mistake with the second post, someone said that it was ‘even funnier’ that it was seemingly ‘really an accident’.

‘Bravo!! Way to get the fandom up and moving today,’ another fan tweeted.

Scandal might not be on air anymore, but the fandom is indeed still alive and kicking.

Scandal is available to watch on Star on Disney Plus.
