REVEALED: Alonso’s Efforts to ‘Provoke Luck’ for Alpine F1 Ahead of British GP

Alpine Renault have been one of the most underperforming F1 teams this season, with luck playing massive spoilsport in the French outfit’s hopes of fighting amongst the mid-field pack. However, Fernando Alonso is looking desperate to end the terrible run of form for the team.

How, you might ask? Well, Alpine’s executive director, Marcin Budkowski, revealed that the Spaniard is planning to visit certain local places ahead of the British Grand Prix to revive the team’s luck.

Speaking to Motorsport-Total, the Alpine director opened up about the team’s poor luck since the start of this F1 season.

“Fernando complained that we were generally very unlucky. When something happened, it never benefited us. That also played a certain role,” he said.

“He has said that before Silverstone he will make a detour to one of his local places where he has a little routine to provoke luck a little. So we’ll see if that works. If it works for Silverstone, then I’ll send him there between each race!” the Polish added.

Alpine are yet to deliver an all-around performance over a weekend. The initial few races were all about Esteban Ocon carrying the team over his shoulders while Alonso was still finding his ground.

However, then arrived the dramatic turnaround. The Spaniard is now at the top of his game, but Ocon is nowhere to be seen in the top 10. The French lad is somehow lacking pace, and this uncertainty is costing Alpine a lot in their hopes of claiming a top 4 finish in the constructor’s standings.

F1 engineer looks back at the scrappy start to 2021

The 44-year-old sounded absolutely displeased with the way Alpine started off their 2021 campaign. “It’s clearly disappointing when it comes to the start of the season,” he said.

“The car has a decent pace if we manage to bring it to the track. We saw that in qualifying in Portugal and Spain, thanks to Esteban. It was mixed in the races. Sometimes we lacked some race pace.”

Alpine are currently 12 points adrift Aston Martin, who are holding onto P6 on the constructor’s standings. Also, the gap has undeniably blown between the mid-field teams.

Hence, a top 4 finish is looking highly unlikely for the French outfit, solely because Ferrari are already 90 points ahead. So, how far can Alpine limit their damages over the rest of the season? Will they manage to beat Aston Martin and AlphaTauri to secure P5 in their debut F1 season?
