GB News has lost another high profile host after Alastair Stewart broke his hip.

The 69-year-old fears ‘it will be a while’ until he’s back hosting on the news channel, following an accident involving his horses.

However, he pledged that he would return to his show.

Stewart tweeted: ‘#BreakingNews: I won’t be hosting #AlastairStewartAndFriends on @GBNEWS this weekend due to……. a broken hip! I fear it’ll be a while but I’ll be back!!!

‘Thanks for kindness & support to all at @GBNEWS, the brilliant Anita @AnitaLandLtd & my extraordinary family.’

Stewart explained to Rav Vadgama that he was ‘ leading in one of the horses & she bolted, knocking me over – rather forcefully’.

The journalist thanked friends and followers for their well wishes.

Stewart hosts his show on GB News at 12pm on Saturday and Sunday, with a replay airing on Monday morning.

This comes at a time where GB News is rapidly losing viewers, after initially beating BBC News and Sky News in the ratings when it launched in June.

On Wednesday, a show hosted by Liam Halligan and Gloria De Piero between 1pm and 3.30pm ‘attracted no measurable audience’, while Simon McCoy and Alex Phillips’ show at 5pm also measured zero viewers.

These figures came a day after presenter Guto Harri took the knee live on air, after saying he understood why the England team made the gesture to oppose racism and promote equality.

After some viewers accused the channel of becoming ‘too woke’, GB News said the gesture constituted an ‘an unacceptable breach of our standards.’

Stewart is the second high profile name to take a break from GB News, after chairman and presenter Andrew Neil took a break just weeks into the channel’s tenure.
