An unassuming partygoer has only just learnt that she partied the night away with Paul Mescal two months before he catapulted to fame on BBC’s hit drama Normal People.
In a viral Twitter post, Orlmae Joscon revealed that she had just developed an old disposable camera to find the Irish heartthrob posing with her and her friend during a random night out.
She explained that she had no idea that the 25-year-old was on the cusp of stardom and thought he was just ‘some weirdo’.
‘Just got my 2020 disposable cameras developed and found pre-famous paul mescal in my pics lol we spent the whole night dancing with him and just assumed he was some weirdo,’ she wrote.
The snap, taken at The Workman’s Club in Dublin in February before the pandemic hit, showed Paul grinning at the camera with his hands in the air.
In April last year, Paul won critical acclaim for his portrayal of Connell Waldron in Normal People, an adaptation from Sally Rooney’s novel of the same name.

Paul recently revealed that he would love to do another series of the hit BBC show with his co-star Daisy Edgar-Jones as he picked up a coveted Bafta TV award for his performance.
‘I would work with Daisy again in a heartbeat, and regardless of the work or anything I’m just [always] really excited to see her.’
But before anyone could get too carried away with any rumours he may have unwittingly started, Paul laughingly clarified: ‘There’s nothing at all in the pipeline.’
Speaking to Metro.co.uk on finding fame during lockdown, he said: ‘I’ve no idea what the opposite of that would look like. I have no complaints with it. I got to go to work after the kind of craziness of last summer.’
The performer also shared his delight at attending the Bafta awards again, as he continued: ‘It’s been, like, a weird year and it kind of feels full circle, having presented here last year, to be in a room with people – not just people, like literally people at the forefront of television at the moment – and it was really quite special, quite emotional.’
Despite his newfound fame during lockdown, it was recently reported that Paul quit Instagram after reading the comments on his posts ‘became a drain’.

A source told The Sun: ‘Paul deactivated his Instagram account because it just became a drain.
‘He felt like he was wasting time on there, reading the comments is no good for anyone’s mental health.’
They added that Paul ‘is a private guy’ and ‘doesn’t feel the need to share everything online’.

‘There are more important things going on in his life and he wants to focus his energy into his personal life and his work, he doesn’t need social media for that,’ they said, hinting that the star could return to the platform in future.
