HBO Max has two more animated Game of Thrones spin-offs in development in addition to the one previously announced this year, it has been reported.

In January, it was claimed that meetings with writers were being conducted to discuss a potential animated Game of Thrones spin-off series, which would have a similar tone to the original show.

While it has not been officially confirmed, it has been reported that there may be three animated series in total, one of which may be set in the land of Yi Ti, a region in Essos to the East of Westeros inspired by Imperial China.

Furthermore, a live-action prequel that was going to be set in Flea Bottom in King’s Landing is said to have been shelved.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO Max did not provide comment on the development of the animated projects.

While Yi Ti was briefly mentioned in Game of Thrones, it was never depicted on screen.

Nonetheless, Lord Corlys Velaryon, an upcoming character in HBO’s prequel series House of the Dragon played by Steve Toussaint, is said to have sailed to the eastern land on his travels.

The live-action prequel that has reportedly been axed was expected to depict life in the slums of King’s Landing.

However, sources informed The Hollywood Reporter that HBO never officially confirmed the show.

Next year, Game of Thrones fans will be treated to the first Game of Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon, a prequel set 300 years before the events of the original fantasy drama.

The show will tell the tale of several of the Targaryen clan of old, with Paddy Considine playing King Viserys Targaryen, Matt Smith portraying his younger brother Prince Daemon Targaryen and Emma D’Arcy playing the king’s first born child Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen.

Olivia Cooke will star as Alicent Hightower, while Rhys Ifans will play her father Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King.

While Game of Thrones fans are excited to see what House of the Dragon has in store, the season eight finale of the original show is still a hot topic of conversation, despite airing over two years ago.

A Song of Ice and Fire author George RR Martin recently revealed that the novels will feature a different conclusion to the controversial finale, saying that the series was ‘going in somewhat different directions’.

Metro.co.uk has contacted HBO for comment.

House of the Dragon is due to premiere on Sky Atlantic and NOW in 2022.
