Verstappen Teases English Fans With Painful Reminder of Euro 2020 Loss Ahead of British GP

A home race is uplifting to the drivers whose fans come out to cheer them on. Not that it hurts those who aren’t getting cheered on. It’s not a cause-and-effect relationship, but drivers genuinely look forward to the noise from the stands; a sound they have missed out on the previous season. The Silverstone Circuit guarantees to be at full capacity this season.

That is 140,000 Brits in the stands. The number doesn’t seem to deter championship leader Max Verstappen, who will race Hamilton at his home track. Verstappen jabs at the English football fans, “Italy also managed to win the European Championship final at Wembley, right?”

The Dutch driver is 32 points ahead of reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton. While Hamilton claims to be excited to hear the roar of the crowds at Silverstone, Verstappen believes he won’t be too affected by it. He started F3 at the circuit and “is one of [his] favorites.”

While Verstappen claims that the British fans won’t affect him, he didn’t seem to mind the chants at Austria. The Red Bull ring echoed with the shouts of “Super Max” as the orange smoke floated over the Orange Army.

It was all well-deserved, of course, as Verstappen remained undefeated throughout the triple header, and even ended it with a career first Grand Slam.

Super Max has been having a Super Season. He is posing to be a major threat to seven-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton. The Dutch driver has been unstoppable and has definitely ‘Unleashed the Lion’ on Mercedes.

Mercedes claims to be enjoying the competition, but it’s no doubt that Max, along with RedBull, threatens their current standing. While Mercedes looks to stay optimistic about their competition, Redbull charges through.

It has been a while since the sport has been this nail-bitingly interesting. The sprint format this weekend only looks to shake things up. Fans or no fans, Hamilton and Verstappen will be as focused as ever to beat the other to the checkered flag.
