British GP: Ricciardo Rues ‘Mixed’ Feelings After F1 Qualifying at Silverstone

It is quite evident that Daniel Ricciardo is not having the best of times with his new team this season. The Australian, already struggling to find his feet in the new MCL35 car, was overshadowed by his teammate, Lando Norris who is the only driver to score points at all races this season.

Fortunately, it looks like Daniel’s struggles are finally paying off. The Australian has qualified at P7 for the inaugural sprint race, two-thousandths of a second behind his teammate.

Meanwhile, Daniel Ricciardo was left with mixed feelings after the qualifying session, as he was just 0.08 seconds adrift from Charles Leclerc in P4.

What did Daniel Ricciardo say?

“I’m mixed right now, because it was actually good,” said Daniel Ricciardo in the post-qualifying press conference.

“We had a good feeling and good pace and just the last run, I think there was some time on the table. I see how close it is and when you see fourth so close… right now I feel like I know where that [time] is.”

Ricciardo’s struggles have surprised Zak Brown

Honey Badger has only managed to secure 40 points so far this season, whereas his young teammate, Lando Norris sits P4 in the driver’s standings with 101 points.

Meanwhile, McLaren CEO, Zak Brown showed his concerns regarding his new signing, Daniel Ricciardo, who endeavored to adapt with the Woking-based team.

“I think we are surprised, he’s surprised that he’s not nearer Lando’s pace — but the good news is everyone’s working very hard, everyone knows where we need to improve,” said Brown.

“Daniel knows where he needs to improve, so there’s no excuses, just hard work ahead of us and I hope he gets on top of it because we need two cars constantly in the front if we’re going to hold onto third in the championship.”
