Russell Takes the Mickey Out of Himself as His Unfortunate F1 Streak Continues in Silverstone

George Russell has been one of the unluckiest drivers on the F1 grid, and one would definitely acknowledge this statement, considering how his past race weekends have played out.

The latest being at the Austrian Grand Prix. After staying in the top 10 for over 3/4th of the race, the Briton fell outside the points after losing his position to Fernando Alonso. A similar trend unfolded this weekend as well.

Russell managed to bring his car into the top 10 during qualifying, by securing an impressive P8. And unlike the past, the young British driver managed to bring his car home in the top 10 during the first F1 sprint as well.

However, to his poor luck, Sprint races don’t offer points to anyone other than the top 3. And Russell could do nothing but mock himself.

What did George Russell say?

Following the sprint race qualifying, Russell laughed at the fact that he will not be earning points despite bringing his Williams home in the top 10 in a race.

“A typical Top 10. No points,” the homeboy said.

Russell yet again stole the limelight during qualifying after managing to bring his Williams home in the top 10 for the second consecutive weekend.

Only this time, he bettered his Austrian GP result by qualifying P8 on the grid. What’s more, Russell managed to beat the Ferrari of Carlos Sainz and the Aston Martin of Sebastian Vettel in the process.

How impressive was that? Despite possessing a below-average car in hand, Russell almost beat two-thirds of the mid-field pack. Now, Russell will line up P9 for Sunday’s race, which gives him a chance of redemption after the heartbreaking race at Red Bull Ring last weekend.

Can Russell claim his first F1 points for Williams?

Over the years, there have been several occasions where Russell had every chance of securing points for Williams. But, he never managed to do so in the end. And now, the Briton has another such opportunity lying ahead of him.

Of course, Williams aren’t looking quite strong at the moment compared to other mid-field cars. However, Russell is somehow managing to find the much-needed performance to fight for the top 10.

The sprint race, too, witnessed Russell pacing himself quite well along with the rest of the mid-field pack. Hence, there is a strong chance that the Briton could finally bring his car home in the top 10 on Sunday for the first time. But, how far will it happen in reality?
