WATCH: Jake Paul Finally Explains Why He’s Not Fighting Real Boxers

So far, YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul has fought two other internet influencers, an NBA athlete and a retired mixed martial artist. Paul recently shared that he plans to climb up the ranks to fight the likes of Canelo Alvarez. In his three professional bouts, he has ended all fights early with two TKOs and one KO. His previous fights clearly show that Paul has significant power and an effective right jab. However, his current record does not tell fans and other fighters much about his actual skill set.

Many on the internet have questioned the 24-year-old’s legitimacy as he has not yet faced a real pro-boxer in the ring. However, Jake Paul finally addressed this on the latest episode of ‘BFFs with Dave Portnoy and Josh Richards’ podcast. ‘The Problem Child’ threw light on his reasons for not fighting professional boxers.

I mean we’ve tried to make deals happen. But it’s like what fight makes sense? There are not that many boxers with big names and who are on the same level as me,” explained Jake Paul.

Is Jake Paul a real boxer now?

When asked if people in the boxing community have accepted him as a “real boxer” yet, Jake Paul said that many people have acknowledged his achievements but some still doubt his legitimacy. He added he is now under the guidance of boxing legends like ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, and even current champions like the Charlo brothers.

I think they already have. A lot of the boxing community respects me and there’s another half who wants to deny that I’m a real boxer. But I’m friends with Mike Tyson, he’s taken me under his wing. I’m friends with [Evander] Holyfield, you know. The Charlo brothers have shown love.

“So, there’s a lot of hate and it’s easy to look at that because dirty dishes are what always stand out the most. But there’s so much love from the boxing community,” said Jake Paul.

Despite their bittersweet rivalry, Tyron ‘The Chosen One’ Woodley has acknowledged his opponent’s achievements in the sport. The former UFC champion said Jake Paul is a proper athlete and even appreciated his ability to qualify for state-level Ohio Division I Wrestling Individual Championships in 2013.

Tyron Woodley will indubitably be Jake Paul’s toughest challenge so far. The five-time UFC champ holds an extensive background in combat sports and is notorious for knocking people out. Regardless of his record, Paul has promised a clean win over his opponent in both press conferences.
