F1 RADIO: Hamilton Defends Himself & Blames Verstappen for His Dangerous Crash at Silverstone
The British Grand Prix had its first major incident of the day, and this time between the title rivals, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. The two came together in the first lap of the race at turn one at Silverstone, with Verstappen being taken out by the Mercedes driver.
The 7-times world champion continued with his race, while the Red Bull prodigy was sent into the firewall, with his car being completely wrecked. Hamilton soon came on the team radio to tell that he soon sustained damage due to the collision, and stated it wasn’t his mistake.
Hamilton doesn’t think it was his fault that Verstappen crashed
As the two were having an intense battle in the opening laps of the race, they had a massive accident. As Hamilton was pushing to take the lead, in turn, one of the track, his left-front tire completely dismantled the right-rear tire of Verstappen. This sent the Dutchman hurdling to tire wall before coming to a sudden stop.
Hamilton came on the team radio and said, “I’ve got damage. He just turned in on me. I was ahead going in there, man. Fully alongside, it was my line.”
With the session being red-flagged, Hamilton will be looking to put the incident behind me and focus on winning the race, and bring home a much-needed victory for the Mercedes team.

Can Lewis grab a victory with Max out of the way?
Without a shadow of a doubt, Hamilton and Verstappen are arch-rivals and have pushed each other to the limit. Hence, with the Dutch driver out of the British Grand Prix due to this incident, Hamilton is looking to bring home a victory and seize twenty-five points for himself.

With a restart on the way, Hamilton is hoping for a clean race and aims that such an incident doesn’t take place again which might sabotage his race. The Knight might be considering himself lucky as he didn’t ruin his own race when he had the accident with Max.
