Jermell Charlo Reveals Why He’s Not Interested in Moving Up a Weight Class

On Saturday night, Jermell Charlo will step inside the ring for the biggest boxing test of his life. The American boxer will lock horns with Brian Castano for the undisputed super-welterweight championship. He has earned this opportunity after putting on some sensational performances in the division and now, Charlo is just one stride away from creating history.

Also, looking at a wider picture, if Charlo wins this mammoth showdown, then too he might not just step up in the middleweight division.

Speaking to a group of reporters, he said, ‘‘It’s easy for me to make the weight. I don’t wanna move up to 160 because that contradicts my brother. You know, it contradicts Errol Spence if he wants to move up. Who knows what’s next for me, though?”

“Everybody kinda good,” (h/t Boxing Scene)

Jermell Charlo doesn’t wish to confront his brother, Jermall Charlo, who’s the WBC champ at the 160-pound weight class. Also, looking at a fight with the welterweight king, Errol Spence Jr., he isn’t quite willing to leave this weight class.

That said, ‘Iron Man’ who’s been a predominant face of the super-welterweight division might end up staying at this weight class for long. This is because he’s comfortably made weight for all his fights here and he’ll love to continue the same for a substantial period ahead.

But before anything else, Charlo will first have to get past his arch-nemesis in Brian Castano, who’s undefeated and possesses a stern challenge. That said, the world will be glued to its TV screens to watch this high-class encounter.

Jermell Charlo vs Brian Castano – A 12-round war

Charlo vs Castano fight is unusual in its own way. Both of these fighters possess their own certain skills and they’ve remained highly successful with their approach until now.

Charlo likes taking his fights deep whereas Castano is a true finisher. With that, it’ll be interesting to see if the Argentinian boxer knocks Charlo out with his cosmic power. Or ‘Iron Man’ takes the fight till the final bell, to turn the tide in his favor.
