Love Island 2021 star Sharon Gaffka has opened up after being dumped from the villa on Sunday, admitting that she ‘hoped something had happened with Hugo Hammond’ before her exit.
It comes after the 25-year-old civil servant left the series in a shock recoupling, which saw newcomers Danny Bibby and AJ Bunker get to decide who they wanted to partner up with first.
Sharon left the villa and had an emotional message for her fellow contestants, saying: ‘We all took a plunge when we came here. Love is never guaranteed. I’m glad I took the plunge. I’m still on the hunt for love.’
Speaking on ITV2’s Love Island: Aftersun, Sharon said that she wished there had been a spark develop between her and Hugo – who she coupled up with during the very first episode of the series.
Talking to host Laura Whitmore, she admitted: ‘I was always attracted to him, initially when we were first coupled up in the beginning.
‘He’s a very good looking guy. He has a really nice charm and a lot of qualities I find attractive in somebody. I think the first time we were coupled up, he shut me down very quickly, so I never pursued anything.’

She added: ‘But as time went on, he warmed up to me a bit more. I was hoping that there could have been something there, but obviously it wasn’t meant to be.’
Speaking about the dynamic between them, she added: ‘I did grow a really good friendship with him. I was always going to be there to back him. He was the nicest guy I’d ever met.’
However, Sharon said she believed she ‘left at a good time’ and had ‘no regrets’ about the programme.
‘Even though I left single, I made amazing friends and got out of my comfort zone and did some stuff I wouldn’t normally do in my wildest dreams. And I learnt that I could live without my phone! I would do it 100% all over again,’ she added.

Following the recoupling, AJ and Hugo Hammond are now an item, as are Danny and Lucinda Strafford, Aaron Francis and Kaz Kamwi, and Jake Cornish and Liberty Poole.
Liam Reardon and Millie Court are together, as are Toby Aromolaran and Chloe Burrows, and Danny and Faye Winter.
Love Island continues on Monday at 9pm on ITV2.
