“Make It Legal”: Stefanos Tsitsipas Demands to Allow On-Court Coaching During Matches
World No.4 Stefanos Tsitsipas recently lost to Filip Krajinovic in the quarter-finals of the German Open 2021. Even though he won the first set, the Serbian player made an incredible comeback and defeated him in three sets. The final scoreline of the match was 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.
Recently, Stefanos Tsitsipas put forward his views on an ongoing debate in tennis. He tweeted that it is high time when the management gives a green light to the rule where coaches can talk to the players on the court even during matches.
Coaching on every point should be allowed in tennis. The sport needs to embrace it. We’re probably one of the only global sports that doesn’t use coaching during the play. Make it legal. It’s about time the sport takes a big step forward.

“Coaching on every point should be allowed in tennis. The sport needs to embrace it. We’re probably one of the only global sports that doesn’t use coaching during the play,” wrote Tsitsipas in a recent tweet.

While in sports such as football and basketball, coaches can talk and discuss tactics with the players even during the match-break, this is not allowed in tennis as of now. In tennis, no player can have a conversation with his coach when the play is going on. Tsitsipas believes that tennis needs to get rid away from this rule.

“About time the sport takes a big step forward”- Stefanos Tsitsipas
Tsitsipas feels that it is the right time to make coaching during the match legal even in tennis. He mentioned that the sport will only make progress if this rule gets valid even in tennis.

“Make it legal. It’s about time the sport takes a big step forward,” added the French Open 2021 runner-up.
Many experts have also said that coaches should be allowed to talk to the players even for just two minutes at the end of every or two sets. It’ll be intriguing to see how the tennis governing bodies respond to the tweet of the World No.4 player.
After having a great season so far, Tsitsipas will be playing at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Will he be able to win an Olympic Gold for his country this year?
