Man Utd ‘offered Vinicius Jr transfer during Raphael Varane negotiations but won’t pay Real Madrid £68.5m asking price’

MANCHESTER UNITED have been offered Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr during negotiations for Raphael Varane, according to reports.

The Red Devils are hard at work trying to tie up a deal for the French defender.

Club chiefs are confident of signing Varane in the coming weeks, but could come away from talks with more than they bargained for.

According to the Mirror, Madrid are offering United the chance to sign Vinicius Jr as well.

Club president Florentino Perez is desperate to bring Kylian Mbappe to the Spanish capital this summer.

But such a deal would currently be too expensive for the cash-strapped LaLiga giants to afford.

Getting Vinicius off the books would help matters.

Madrid want £68.5million for the winger, having forked out £36m to sign him as an 18-year-old back in 2018.

United like the winger, but are reluctant to fork out that kind of cash to sign him, having just spent £73m on Jadon Sancho.

But Real Madrid are open to an initial loan move leading to a permanent deal next summer.

As for Varane, the two clubs are getting closer to agreeing a deal, with the Frenchman having already agreed terms on a five-year deal at Old Trafford.

Madrid are reluctant to lose the 28-year-old, but won’t entertain the idea of seeing him leave for free at the end of next season when his contract expires.

They knocked back United’s most recent bid of £45m, holding out for £55m.

But SunSport revealed earlier this week that a compromise of £50m will be reached with a deal expected to be announced in the coming days.
