Ben Shephard was fully basking in the attention he received on Good Morning Britain as he returned to the programme after an operation on his leg.

The TV presenter, 46, hosted Monday’s programme with his right leg propped up on a stool after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament playing football.

He confessed it was ‘great’ being taken care of both at home and at work, with newsreader Charlotte Hawkins remarking: ‘People helping you with things, bringing you cups of tea and things.’

He replied: ‘Yes Charlotte, in talking about that can you make me a cup of tea?’

Charlotte, slightly stunned at first, picked up on the joke and asked: ‘I’ll just go, shall I? No honestly, alright then! Cup of tea on the way!’

She actually left her seat and walked away from the set as Susanna Reid looked unimpressed, giving her co-star a gentle telling off.

‘Charlotte, come back,’ she said, before adding: ‘Blimey Ben you’ve changed!’

‘I’ve got reason,’ the Tipping Point star told her before exclaiming: ‘I’m in pain!’

Charlotte eventually returned to the Good Morning Britain desk, telling her colleagues that she had spoken to someone else to sort out Ben’s cuppa which was ‘on the way’.

Susanna tutted: ‘Honestly…’

Speaking about his new presenting set up on the show, Susanna remarked that his seating looked ‘uncomfortable’ but her co-star was happy to put his feet up.

After explaining his nasty injury Ben added: ‘Thanks for all your lovely messages, it’s lovely to think you all care.

‘Could you send some of that love to my wife because she’s really struggling!’

He went on: ‘This is the first time in about three weeks I’ve had trousers on, shoes and socks as well.’

As viewers sent him support telling him to get better soon, the Tipping Point star joked: ‘Although not too quickly because I’m enjoying all this attention.’

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am.
