‘Can’t Say the Best Player But He is a GOAT’: Former Bulls Star Toni Kukoc Makes Interesting Comments About Michael Jordan

Michael Jordan has set the highest standard of comparison in the league since his time in the 90s. His six championships and his mind-boggling dominance set him apart from any player to ever play the sport. Over the years, many players were close to acquiring that throne, but the Bulls star is not giving up the spot.

MJ has two 3-peats to his name, earned a Hall of Fame, and has been awarded the Finals MVP title each time, amongst his other accolades. And keeping aside these numbers, he revolutionized NBA for the entire world to watch.

Michael Jordan’s NOT the best player but the GOAT Bulls 2021 Hall of Fame inductee Toni Kukoc tells me in Episode 1 of @zennioptical’s EYECONS series.

Michael Jordan isn’t the best player in the league?

The sport of basketball is synonymous with Michael Jordan since the time his lethal force touched the league. From LeBron James to Kobe Bryant, several bigwigs have been weighed on the GOAT scale. However, Michael’s former teammate Toni Kukoc has found a different way to summarise this age-old conversation.

Toni Kukoc has segregated the term GOAT from meaning the same as the best player in the league. He said, “If I can compare Michael, I’ll probably compare him with Tiger of golf, with Messi or Ronaldo of soccer, Phelps of swimming… I can’t say the best player, but he (Michael) is a… GOAT of basketball,” Kukoc added. “I don’t think it’s selfish. It’s just the way it is.”

The GOAT debate finds a different path

Over the years, abundant talent has come and gone. But undoubtedly, Michael Jordan owned his era of basketball. NBA fans all across the world only chanted for the boy from North Carolina. The ‘Bad Boy’ Pistons, Magic’s Los Angeles Lakers, and Utah Jazz posed a threat to his legacy, but MJ stood undefeated by the end of it.

Kukoc has put forth a valid argument wherein he has declared Jordan as the greatest of all time. But one can’t weigh who’s better since the two eras haven’t played against each other. 36-YO LeBron James is often found in such debates of the greats, but has he surpassed Michael in his astounding career?
