Collin Morikawa is a history maker. The 24-year-old sent records tumbling with his emphatic victory at The Open Championship on Sunday. Morikawa kept his cool in the final round and escaped with a bogey-free performance to run away with the championship. Here are all the golf records that he broke during the process.

Collin Morikawa is undoubtedly a special player. He has won his second major championship in just his eighth start. That is a record in itself. Winning two majors in just eight starts is simply a breathtaking fact!

149th Open Championship: Collin Morikawa enters the history books

There was a lot on the line when Collin Morikawa, Louis Oosthuizen, and Jordan Spieth entered the final round of The Open Championship 2021. Oosthuizen marked himself as an early favorite but stumbled in Round 4 with a score of 1-over-par.

On the other hand, Collin Morikawa held his nerves en route to a brilliant win. Morikawa shot 4-under in the final round and won the tournament with a score of 15-under over four rounds. Following Morikawa’s win, golf reporter Justin Ray posted a compilation of records that Morikawa set or matched with his win at Royal St. George’s!

Becoming the first player to win two major championships on debut is no easy feat! Morikawa also joined Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus in a special list with his emphatic win.

Here’s another noteworthy tweet:

Bogey-free final rounds of 66 or lower in major championship wins since 2000

2012 McIlroy, PGA
2020 Morikawa, PGA
2021 Morikawa, Open

There have only been three in that span, and Collin has two of them.

Morikawa revealed the secret behind the spectacular victory

Collin Morikawa delivered a fantastic speech during the champion’s ceremony at the Royal St. George’s. He kept it short and to the point, but as Morikawa came to attend his press conference, he revealed a major secret.

The press asked him his thoughts about playing through the week and ending up as champion and how he did that, to which Moriakwa replied:

“The secret? Well, I never do this, but I had a burger for four straight days, so my body is probably feeling it. I know my body’s feeling it. I think I just enjoy these moments, and I talk about it so much that we love what we do.”

“And you have to embrace it. You have to be excited about these opportunities, and that’s how I looked at it today, especially coming down the stretch, was I’m excited.”
