How Much Did Collin Morikawa and Jordan Spieth Win at The Open Championship 2021?

Jordan Spieth utterly dominated The Open Championship 2021. However, there was one man better than him and his name was Collin Morikawa. The latter’s final round heroics did not allow Spieth to run away with the victory and the Texas native had to second for a solo second-place finish. So how much did Morikawa and Spieth earn at the Royal St. George’s Golf Club?

Spieth was making a run to win the second Open Championship of his career. However, a brilliant final round from Collin Morikawa denied him the win. Nonetheless, Spieth would be partly satisfied with the way he contended for the championship.

Prize money payout for Collin Morikawa and Jordan Spieth at The Open Championship 2021

The Open Championship 2021 awarded total prize money of $11.5 million in 2021. It marked the record prize pool for this major, and Morikawa took home the major share of it with his heroics.

Meanwhile, Jordan Spieth finished solo second with a score of 13-under for the tournament. This effort earned him a payday of $1,198,000. That’s the catch in major championships. Even the runner-up will be treated to a million-dollar payday!

While Spieth took home $1.19M, Collin Morikawa enjoyed his $2.07 million payday. It is the highest ever payout a ‘Champion Golfer of the Year’ has ever received. Morikawa should be proud of his historic achievement!

Where Spieth faltered and Morikawa ran away with the win

A final round at a major championship always brings out the nerves. It is never easy to shoot a low round on a Sunday, but Collin Morikawa and Jordan Spieth displayed nerves of steel at Royal St. George’s yesterday.

The fact that both of them shot 4-under 66 in Round 4 is truly astonishing. Morikawa went bogey-free with his round, but Spieth didn’t. That’s where he lost the tournament. Jordan Spieth committed two bogeys in the final round, one on the par-4 fourth and the other on par-3 sixth.

These two cost him dearly. Had Spieth made at least par on these two holes, he could’ve tied with Morikawa as the latter won the tournament by two strokes. But all these are just assumptions.

At the end of the day, it was Collin Morikawa who reigned supreme. No possible explanation could ever take this title away from him.
