My husband loves to talk and it’s driving me mad

DEAR DEIDRE: MY husband babbles on when we go for a walk and I want to tell him to shut up.

He drives me mad. He repeats the same thing over and over again but if I say anything, he thinks I’m trying to start an argument.

He’s retiring next year and I don’t think I’ll be able to bear having him around the house

During the pandemic, the fact he couldn’t keep quiet on a walk was a real wake-up call to me.

I normally like to walk by myself, to observe nature and be alone, but then he started coming with me and all the pleasure has gone.

No issue is too small, too large or too embarrassing. Read our personal replies here.

I am now having huge anxiety attacks. I’m a woman of 55 and he is 61.

He’s considering retiring next year and I don’t think I’ll be able to bear having him around the house the whole time.

DEIDRE SAYS: If he is repeating himself and this is new behaviour, it could be a sign there is something else going on for him.

Tell him you are worried and that you feel he has changed. Suggest he has a check-up with his GP.

If all is well, suggest he finds a hobby of his own. That way he will be doing something independently of you, which will be better for his retirement – and you can have more walks on your own again.

NEXT IN TODAY’S DEAR DEIDRE I saved myself for marriage, but now I can’t last longer than five minutes
