Piers Morgan supports nightclubs reopening after branding Freedom Day ‘disingenuous nonsense’

Piers Morgan has empathised with the nightclub industry as they finally reopened doors today, despite his views on the idea of Freedom Day being ‘nonsense’.
Nightclubs across England welcomed the masses last night for the first time in 16 months to celebrate lockdown restrictions easing.
Clubbers found a surprising ally in Piers, 56, who recalled his partying days of yesteryear and could understand the plight of venues that had been forced to keep their doors closed since March 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Piers’ son Spencer Morgan had first tweeted on Monday: ‘Today you will see a lot of older people whining about the young finally getting to enjoy the best part about being young A lot of these people will also call their younger years the “best of their lives”.
‘Today’s young sacrificed 17 months of theirs for them Should be grateful.’
The TV presenter then made the surprising move of agreeing with his son and replied: ‘My eldest son and I have vehemently disagreed about many things in the pandemic but I understand this sentiment. When I was his age (27), I Ioved nightclubs.
‘It’s been a very tough 16 months for that industry and for those who support it & like clubbing.’
It comes hours after Piers criticised Freedom Day, which means lockdown measures would ease despite the rising cases of the Delta variant across England.
The broadcaster also slammed Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who had been pinged by the NHS Test & Trace app alongside Chancellor Rishi Sunak, but originally planned not to self isolate. The MPs then made a dramatic U-turn and announced they would quarantine for a week.
Reacting to the developments, Piers tweeted on Sunday: ‘So, @RobertJenrick spends all morning tortuously defending the indefensible “one rule for us, one rule for everyone else” conduct of his Prime Minister & Chancellor, only for them to wait until he comes off air before admitting it was indefensible & they’re no longer doing it.

‘Nothing will more perfectly illustrate the disingenuous data-ignoring nonsense of “Freedom Day” tomorrow than Boris Johnson locked away at Chequers, self-isolating from the virus we’re supposed to be free from.’
When one follower asked when he thought lockdown restrictions should ease, Piers responded: ‘Hi Joe, since you ask respectfully not abusively, I’d say that I honestly don’t know but opening everything up tomorrow given the surging Delta cases & so many people still to be vaccinated, seems a huge gamble to me.

‘We all want freedom, but not if it leads to more lockdowns.’
Along with nightclubs reopening, other measures that have eased include the enforcement of wearing face masks except for when using public transport or in crowded areas, and social distancing.
