Terence Crawford Explains Why Jermell Charlo Is Not on the Pound-for-Pound List: ‘Gotta Do Better’

WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford has ridiculed his countryman Jermall Charlo after his failed attempt to become the first-ever undisputed 154 lbs champion. Despite all the efforts, Brian Castano offered a tough fight and blocked Jermell Charlo from taking away the WBO title.

The fight ended in a controversial draw, with both men retaining their respective championships. While a victory would have taken ‘Iron Man’ to sheer heights, the recent outcome has condemned him to severe criticism. That said, P4P great Crawford, threw dirt on Charlo via social media.

“I been gone for a min but ‘Jermell Charlo’ last night is the reason you not on the P4P list sir. Gotta do better,” wrote ‘Bud’ on Twitter.

Terence Crawford has been inactive since defending his title against Kell Brook. He also doesn’t have an official opponent in sight. Although Jermell Charlo competes at a division above ‘Bud’, Crawford’s possible move to 154 lbs might have urged him to begin some feuds. Nevertheless, Charlo hasn’t lashed back at any of his critics.

Per the unified super welterweight champion, he believed that the fight went his way. However, the judges’ scorecard reflected a different outcome. Now, as Charlo also has a draw on his resume, it might not be very good news for the Lions Only clan.

Meanwhile, it can leave the door open to several other things. Starting from a rematch against Castano to umpteen other matchups, Charlo can resurrect himself and enter the pound-for-pound list.

Is Terence Crawford right about Jermell Charlo?

There’s no denying that a win over Castano would have been a career-defining moment for Jermell Charlo. However, given the draw, ‘Iron Man’ can once again attempt to become the undisputed unified super welterweight champion. As Erislandy Lara, who has already faced Brian Castano, currently holds the WBA (Regular) 154 lbs title, Charlo can target a fight against him.

Lara, who is also a top-tier pugilist, would offer a tough challenge to Jermell Charlo. On grabbing a win, Charlo would have four world titles. However, only a win over Castano can bring him the full WBO strap and help him silence the critics. Hence, Charlo will want a fight against ‘El Boxi’ at the earliest as he will want to prove the world and Terence Crawford wrong.
