The Grand Tour Scotland special: James May ‘has plans for revenge on Jeremy Clarkson’ after brutal caravan stunt

The Grand Tour stars have pulled off plenty of pranks in their time, but the upcoming Scotland special features one of their very best – and James May is already plotting how to get revenge on Jeremy Clarkson for it.

James got far more than he bargained for in hilarious scenes featured in the latest instalment of the Amazon Prime Video show, which saw James’s caravan filled from floor to ceiling with water via an open sun roof.

It happened on a typically chaotic tour of the Scottish highlands in upcoming chapter The Grand Tour Presents… Lochdown. The special sees Jeremy, James and Richard Hammond back behind the wheel, driving classic American muscle cars against stunning backdrops.

After pulling in for a pitstop and leaving his vehicle unattended (always a bad move when travelling with his co-stars), Jeremy and Richard had the ingenious idea of pumping thousands of litres into James’s vehicle behind his back.

Returning and spotting a leak, James opened the caravan door and is knocked straight to the ground with the force of tonnes of water, feeling the full force of the blow. Safe to say, he wasn’t impressed, and he has a few ideas about how to get his own back on Jeremy.

‘I do have a couple of big ideas lined up for Clarkson,’ James told Metro.co.uk and other press.

‘But then other parts of me think, if I don’t do anything, he’ll just be waiting. And he’ll always know that I might come and do something – not tomorrow, maybe not next week. It may not even be for another year or five years, but one day.

‘That’s always better than playing a prank – the burgeoning psychological torture, of knowing that I’m coming.’

James added: ‘I think that’s what went through my mind when I opened the door – well, water, mainly, because it went straight in my mouth. It’s quite a good prank actually.

‘I don’t quite know how they did it because I didn’t have the door on the caravan, which is quite a flimsy thing. I don’t know how we stood that much pressure. Top marks for ingenuity.’

Speaking about pulling off the prank, Richard went on to say: ‘It’s always a joy to cause another one of the three of us tremendous discomfort and personal danger. It’s a pleasure.’

Meanwhile, the upcoming special also sees the trio racing each other across a body of water on a makeshift jetty, in one of the most perilous set-pieces ever attempted on The Grand Tour.

The instalment was filmed in between lockdowns in 2020.

The Grand Tour Presents… Lochdown will arrive on Amazon Prime Video on July 30.
