Ashleigh Barty to Stay in Separate Bubble Outside the Games Village at Tokyo Olympics 2020
Australian World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty has shown some tremendous discipline since the start of the 2021 season. As a result, she got rewarded with her maiden Wimbledon and second Grand Slam title last week. And now, she is already up again and ready to try for the prestigious gold medal at Tokyo Olympics.
However, due to the ongoing pandemic situation, Japan announced a national emergency a while ago. Hence, there will be no crowd to witness the Games this year. Additionally, all athletes would reside in one massive bubble, that is, the Olympic Village.
What’s interesting is that the 25-year-old Barty will not be staying in the Games Village. Instead, the Australian athletes have another separate bubble within the bubble in Tokyo.

The Ipswich native will make her debut in the Games as the top seed. Barty will also play women’s doubles with compatriot Storm Sanders.
Ashleigh Barty to stay outside the Olympic Village
Many tennis stars arrived only recently in the Olympic Village and shared the unanticipated decor of the rooms. The beds are cardboard-made and can endure the weight of only one person.

Nevertheless, a day after Barty landed in Japan, Ian Andrew Chesterman, Vice President of the Australian Olympic Committee and the Chef de Mission of the Australian Team for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, stated that they would be staying outside the Olympic Village. However, he added the Australian athletes could still meet athletes from other countries.
Barty is currently at her peak, winning Wimbledon 2021 only a week ago. Therefore, she will want to make the run even more glorious, winning her first Olympic medal for Australia.

According to a source, a total of four athletes have already tested positive for the coronavirus inside the Olympic Village. It is indeed good news for Team Barty that they are staying in a separate bubble.

Who is the potential threat to Barty in Tokyo Olympics?
Notably, the Japanese World No. 2 Naomi Osaka would return to tennis courts in Tokyo. She would make the perfect opponent to end the glorious run of the Australian ace.
But the question is: Can Osaka stop Barty from her maiden Olympic Gold? Only time will tell. The tournament starts on July 24 and will conclude on August 1, 2021.
