”Djokovic is Above Everyone”: Pablo Carreno Busta Feels Novak Djokovic is Unbeatable at Tokyo Olympics 2020

Pablo Carreno Busta will be heading to Tokyo, after having won the German Open in Hamburg a few days ago. The Spaniard will be playing his maiden Olympic Games at the age of 30. He has described Novak Djokovic as unbeatable and vouches for the Serb to win the gold in Tokyo.

Pablo spoke to the EFE agency after his win at the Hamburg Open, his second title of the year. His last title win was at Marbella earlier this year, and even that was on a clay court.

Pablo praises Novak Djokovic ahead of the Olympic Games

Pablo Carreno Busta is currently the World No. 11 in the ATP rankings and won his sixth ATP tour title in Hamburg. However, he is way behind Novak Djokovic, both in rankings as well as titles. Even though he is a predominantly senior player amongst the youngsters, Carreno will be a fresher at the Olympics.

“Djokovic is above everyone. He seems unbeatable. He is at a very high level and if there is a favorite in Tokyo it is him. But he is also the opponent to beat, the one with all the pressure behind him. I fixate on him or what he’s going to do. I have to focus on myself,” said Carreno in his interview.

Pablo will be leading Spain’s Olympic contingent in tennis, as a result of Rafael Nadal‘s withdrawal from the tournament. Nadal has withdrawn due to injury issues and also skipped the Wimbledon Championships this year.

Carreno’s run at the Hamburg Open

Pablo Carreno was the number two seed at the German Open in Hamburg. He beat Filip Krajinovic in the final, as he clinched his maiden Hamburg Open title. Filip had beaten tournament favorite and number one seed, Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarterfinals.

Pablo went through the entire tournament without dropping a set at Hamburg. The Spaniard has won 17 matches on clay court this season, having reached the semifinals at Mallorca and Barcelona. This is the first time that Pablo has won two titles on clay court in a single season.

The Spaniard will be hopeful of a strong finish at the Tokyo Olympics and will want to follow in the footsteps of Rafael Nadal. Nadal won the 2008 Olympic Gold in Beijing, China.
