‘Not About the Money’ – Adam Schefter Reports Aaron Rodgers Turned Down Massive Packers Contract Extension

For Green Bay Packers fans, things could look very different in 2021. After yet another season of falling short of the final hurdle to reach a Super Bowl, the Packers faithful had high hopes for the upcoming season with 2020 MVP Aaron Rodgers leading the offense. 

But as things stand, Aaron Rodgers may have played his last game in the Packers’ green and yellow. Disgruntled and looking to leave, Rodgers isn’t keen on returning to Lambeau Field anytime soon.

When NFL insider Adam Schefter first broke the news of Rodgers’ desire to leave back in April, a lot of eyebrows were raised. With the QB not confirming the report, many believed Aaron Rodgers was going to stay. 

But the QB’s actions over the course of the offseason suggest that Schefter’s initial reports were true. Skipping OTAs and minicamp, Rodgers is clearly holding out. 

And with the quarterback yet to make any comment as to why he wishes to leave, many assume that the reason for his likely departure is down to his relationship with the Green Bay Packers front office.

Turning down extension a sign of what to expect from Aaron Rodgers    

Drafting Aaron Rodgers’ replacement Jordan Love in 2020 was a big move from the Green Bay Packers franchise. Despite lacking the offensive weapons, the Packers chose to draft another QB than a wide receiver.

And in typical Aaron Rodgers fashion, the QB let his work do the talking. Picking up the 2020 NFL MVP award, Rodgers turned back the clock to show the Packers franchise who they were underestimating.

Since then the franchise has maintained that their franchise QB is not up for trade. But according to Schefter’s latest update, things may have already gotten out of hand. 

According to Schefter, the Green Bay Packers offered Aaron Rodgers a two-year contract extension. The new contract reportedly would’ve made Rodgers the highest-paid player in the NFL. 

This off-season, the Packers offered Aaron Rodgers a two-year contract extension that would have tied him to Green Bay for five more seasons and made him the highest-paid QB and player in football.

Rodgers declined the offer, proof it’s not about the money.

This clearly indicates that Rodgers isn’t after the money. The problem runs much deeper than that. And despite the Packers front office’s best efforts to keep hold of the QB, the ship may have sailed.
