Sky News has had to apologise after guest Peter Marks swore live on air while discussing Covid passports being compulsory for entry to nightclubs.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has mandated clubs to only let in those who have been double jabbed by the end of September when all over 18s will have been given the chance to get fully vaccinated.

The move comes despite the PM previously ruling out a domestic vaccine passport scheme and is part of a drive to try to ensure more young people take up the offer of the vaccine.

Peter is the Chief Executive of Rekom UK, a company with an estate of 42 nightclubs, and he said he’s been left disappointed by the government’s decision.

On Tuesday morning’s episode of the programme, he questioned the reasoning behind the Covid passport.

‘I’m rarely lost for words, but I cannot believe this populist measure with no scientific basis at all,’ he said.

‘As I said yesterday, we’ve got the best-ventilated space in hospitality, a hangover from the days of smoking.

‘It’s not being taken into consideration at all. They’re talking about large venues, what’s a large venue? Maybe what they’re gonna come up with next will be some sort of twist whereby small clubs will be ok and large ones won’t.’

He went on to say that he didn’t think there was any science behind the decision.

Peter explained that his company, along with a variety of other nightclubs, came together last year and had the Institute of Occupational Medicine show them a ‘way through this’.

‘Of course, we expected to be back last September. But of course, we accept it, we have a heart, we understand when things are going terribly wrong, it’s right to stay closed,’ he said.

‘But what the IOM said was, “the way you deal with this scientifically is that you do risk assessment” and that won’t be on a sector basis, it’ll be on a venue basis with the sort of things like air changes and how much space there is.’

He added: ‘That’s science, this isn’t – it’s populist bulls**t.’

Presenter Ian King sounded flustered as he quickly apologised for the swearing before laughing nervously.

‘Apologies for the language there Peter, but I can understand why you’re frustrated,’ he said, while Peter held up a hand in apology.
