“Create Champions of Life”: Novak Djokovic Reveals Goals for His ‘Life Project’ Ahead of Tokyo Olympics 2020

Very few tennis players in the history of the sport have managed to show their dominance at grand slams in a calendar year as much as Novak Djokovic did in 2021. The Serb is not at all willing to slow down as he landed in Tokyo in quest for a gold medal at the Olympics, which starts in a few days time.

Djokovic is going for history by being the first male tennis player to achieve golden slam in a calendar year. To achieve this rare feat, the world number one has to win a gold medal in Tokyo and clinch the US Open title.

But, the Serbian will be facing stiff challenge from the likes of Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and others. Also, all the matches played at Tokyo will be best-of-three sets, which might give a slight edge to the next-gen stars.

Irrespective of what happens at the Olympics, the world number one will still be a heavy favorite at the US Open this year. Alongside tennis, Djokovic is also interested in setting up his own tennis center at his hometown, Belgrade.

The Serbian became the brand ambassador for Raiffeisen Bank International earlier this April in order to bring his life-time goal to reality.

Now, in a recent interview, Djokovic explained in detail about his goals for his tennis academy(Novak Tennis Center).

“The tennis academy is the life project for me. It is the legacy, it is a place and a system where I would like to convey and share all the knowledge and experience that I had over the years”, Novak said.

“Would like to gather the best team of experts” – Djokovic on his tennis center in Belgrade

Djokovic continued, “I would like to gather the best team of experts as possible in the academy so that we could create new champions not just in tennis, but in life”. 

From what the world number one said, the academy looks to focus on the holistic upbringing of students. Known to be a clever problem-solver on court, Djokovic’s suggestions will be a boon to youngster who wants to make it big in tennis.

The world number one hopes that his academy shapes young minds to be the masters of life and not just in tennis.

“Hopefully that(holistic) environment can be very stimulative, so that we can definitely create champions of life and not just tennis”, concluded the Serb.

The life project of Novak Djokovic appears to be shaping up quite nicely from what we heard from the man himself. Young and upcoming Serbian tennis players like Olga Danilovic had already practiced at the tennis center.
