This week, Eamonn Holmes announced the joyous news that his son, Declan, and his daughter-in-law, Jenny, had welcomed a baby girl, making him a grandfather for the first time.
Not only is Eamonn evidently over the moon to have his first grandchild, but he also shared on Wednesday’s This Morning that he’s convinced the baby was named after him.
While hosting the programme with his wife Ruth Langsford, Eamonn thanked their viewers ‘for all your interest and curiosity in me becoming a grandfather, papa, for the first time’.
He showed the black-and-white photograph that Declan posted on social media of him with his newborn daughter, who has been named Emilia.
While some people might not draw a link between Emilia and Eamonn as similar names, other than the fact that they both start with the same letter, in Eamonn’s opinion, the connection is unquestionable.
‘This is him with Emilia. You’ll spot the connection – Emilia, Eamonn. There’s an E, there’s an M in it, there’s an A. So the child, obviously a tribute. He’s my firstborn, that’s his firstborn. He’s keeping the connection going,’ Eamonn said confidently.

While Eamonn is clearly convinced his granddaughter’s name is an homage to him, Ruth admitted that she didn’t agree with him.
When asked by her husband if she thinks the baby was named after him, she candidly responded: ‘Not really.’
‘Of course it’s named after me!’ Eamonn exclaimed.
The broadcaster then read out a congratulatory message that he received, which read: ‘Eamonn, welcome to the wonderful world of grandparents. It’s a fabulous organisation full of lovely eyes smiling at you, believing everything you tell them and costing quite a lot of money.’
Ruth added: ‘It’s going to be a lovely road you will be travelling as a grandad, getting to know her,’ before congratulating Declan and Jenny once again on their new arrival.
Declan is one of three children who Eamonn shares with his first wife, Gabrielle Holmes, who he was married to from 1985 to 1994.

Eamonn and Ruth became romantically involved in 1994, although they kept their relationship a secret for a while out of respect for Eamonn’s children and his former partner.
The couple eventually married in 2010, eight years after Ruth gave birth to their son, Jack.
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
